AGNEYA SINGH

WRITER & FILMMAKER

ABOUT

Agneya Singh is a filmmaker, writer, and multidisciplinary artist from India. His work moves between cinema, poetry, and the essay form — grounded in the politics of dissent, the poetics of place, and the emotional architectures of memory. Born in New Delhi and trained at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, he began as a documentary filmmaker before shifting toward experimental narratives that fracture traditional storytelling.

Recurring across his films and writing is a preoccupation with rebellion — not as spectacle, but as a condition of being in the world. Whether working behind the camera or on the page, Agneya’s work interrogates the edges of freedom, state, and self. His debut feature film M Cream, a satirical road movie about youth and resistance, won multiple international awards including Best Feature at the Rhode Island International Film Festival. The film was theatrically distributed by PVR Pictures and is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

He is currently based between Europe and India, developing new projects in film and literature.

“M Cream is not only a wildly promising debut feature film, but an eye-popping, propulsive and energetic hybrid of American independent and Bollywood filmmaking.”

Memory is a fickle thing − a bushel of apples, the grunt of an old oak and grasshoppers in the rain − trudging up the slime of hill, I miss a step.
Staring out the ricket of window, I yearn for a daybreak as pristine; but I find the twisted roots of an old Chinar, forlorn in the fog of war.

WHOOSH!
Long afloat on a tempest of obsidian, waves of cerulean dance in the dark of night… And here I am a block of recycled Styrofoam, calling out my mother’s name, stirring up an incantation of Igbo and Yoruba as I sit huddled on the far end of a dinky boat, bobbing up and down, and down and up again.
